We at Parliament not only love encouraging people to not only buy handcrafted, but also to learn handcrafting themselves! Join us for our final event in our Me Made May Series, a Make Your Own Crop-Top Workshop!
This workshop is taught by Elyse Marie Welcher of Littlewings Designs, who has been sewing since she was 7 years old, and has sewn everything from skirts to shirts to shoes! In this class, participants will bring their own favorite button-up or other structured shirt, and utilize this garment as the basis to draft a simple pattern and create their own crop top!
The cost of this workshop is $50, and will take place at Parliament the Boutique on 5/19/17, from 5:30pm-8:30pm. One workshop ticket includes the following:
-3 hours of instruction with Elyse Marie in the Parliament studio space
-pattern paper, thread, and access to other basic sewing tools
-your completed pattern to create more shirts in the future!
-instructional zine for reference
Participants will be asked to prepare in the following ways:
- Please bring a simple button-up or other shirt from a basic plain-woven material, such as cotton or linen. In essence, this shirt can't be stretchy, as this is crop-top is not a stretchy design. Feel free to ask if you are unsure of a shirt to bring!
- 2 yds of cotton or linen fabric. Fabric can be sourced from Field's Fabrics, Joann Fabrics, or any other fabric store. Participants can also choose to buy fabric day of from Elyse's naturally dyed stash for $8-$14 per yard, depending on the fabric!
Given that this workshop includes use of cutting devices, machinery, and sharp instruments, it is not suitable for children under 13 yrs. Any minors must be accompanied by an adult, who will also require their own ticket for participation.
